On Wednesday I jogged my first 5K (34 min) and on THursday I had surgery (incision on side under rib cage and incision in abdominal muscle).  I am a lot sorer than I thought I would be (any movement hurts).  I have gone for a walk each day (1 mile in 45 min.) VERY SLOW!  I am hoping tofays walk goes a little quicker, but my question is this.....
Where do I pick ack up with my running?  I was thinking of starting with the c25k week 7 supplement (12 min. run w/5 min walk - three times)  Is this too much? not enough?  How do you know when starting back where to start?

Well Amy, I'm right there with ya! I have a 100 mile run in October and can't run for another 3 weeks. Regardless of the level of activity, there's no magic pill for recovery. I think that slowly building your base up during this period is important.

It's probably more of the bouncing motions that are hurting things. How about getting on the eliptical or a spin bike? Maybe you could find some way to keep your cardio and level of fitness up while you are off of running? I'm doing this and basically living on my Tri-bike for the next three weeks.

Maybe a work-around is the answer here until you can be completely confident in exercising without pain.

There's a good chance it might be 3-4 weeks before running will be bearable.  I had a lap gall bladder removal right after my first 10 k run and it was at least 3 weeks before I could run 3 miles bearably and close to 5 or 6 weeks before it was comfortable (or not too painful) again.
