I'm back from a small vacation and a couple day break from running/exercising.  i headed to the beach in new jersey (cape may) with my 5 year old daughter for my father's 70th birthday celebration and a family reunion.  we arrived on saturday afternoon at the philly airport and met my sister and her daughter (also 5).  we were running a race in north wildwood called the sandblast 2 mile/4 mile race saturday night and had just enough time to drive directly to the race to meet my family.  the event was organized where the 2 mile run started @ 6:15 PM and the 4 mile run started @ 7 PM, so you could theoretically run both races.  we had somewhere in the vicinity of 15 to 18 family members running one or both of the races.  my father and i settled on running both, and my two sisters ran one each (and watched the kids when not running).  the run was entirely on the sand at the waters edge and out and back affairs.  it was the first time for me running on the beach, but in wildwood the beach is huge and the sand close to the water is flat and hard.  i ran the 2 mile in 15:35 or so and the 4 mile in just over 32 minutes (final results aren't posted yet).  i felt really good for the 2 mile, but was sucking some wind on the 4 mile.  i won our family category of the 2 mile but my bro-in-law, who is really into tri's, killed everbody on the 4 mile, running a brisk 7:05 pace for 4 miles, i came in 3rd in the family category.

the rest of the vacation was beach time and swimming with one 7 mile run in 59 minutes worked into the middle.  i took the last two days off for some much needed rest (mentally and physically), i will hit the gym tonight as i have a little over two weeks to prep for my next sprint tri.  it's good to be back, i'll see everybody on the daily workout boards :)
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Bill, sounds like you had a good time.  What a neat way to spend time with your family.

I run for those who can't or won't.  I run because I once was one of those people.
