32 year old male.  About 50 pounds overweight.

I've heard and read that weight training is essential to a good exercise routine along with the cadio.  Heck, I've never lifted a weight before in my life.

Can someone give me some guidance on things I can do at home to get started?  A gym is 20 miles away, so they are out of the equation.

I like routine and repatition, so maybe something liek that would be good for me.

For me there is always something more important to do at home so I try to get to the gym. If you can do it at home I suggest getting a set of weights that you can make dumbbells out of. They usually go up to like 80 pounds. You can use them for curls/fly's/military press. You can also use them for lunges and squats for your legs. Or you can just start with pushups , wide arms for working your chest and bring your arms in close to work your arms more. Body weight squats and lunges would work for a while as well.

I'd get some DVD and follow along if you have no one to show you what to do. There are strength training stuff you can do without weights or machines. I have a TRX strap and you can do tons of exercises with it at home using your own body weight for resistance.

Hi Mac!  I almost never come over here because I am so not into sports like running - bless those of you that are!  but I had an exercise ball questions so I posted.

now I'm going to have to google TRX strap. I gave up my Y membership and am trying to get going with home exercises. just walking & some calisthenics, plus lots of stretching is my plan.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.
