Panic and Freaking Out!

Okay folks! TALK ME DOWN!

My first Half is on Saturday. I'm scared to death!  My last long run was Thursday, 9 miles of steep hills. Did a 5K Saturday. 5K Sunday. Rest on Monday and Tuesday. Plan to get in elliptical Wednesday, 5K Thursday, then rest Friday.

Am I ready?

My last long run pace was 10:37, which was a bit slow, but was also steep hills (yes, deliberately).  My 5K paces are around 10:00.   So using the run calculators, I should be able to do a Half in about 2:30.

BUT I AM FREAKING OUT BECAUSE I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ANOTHER LONG RUN IN BEFORE SATURDAY!!!  I know I shouldn't even attempt it, so my legs will be fresh, but I am second guessing everything!

IS THIS NORMAL FREAK OUT??

*sigh*  I'm such a baby!
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Take a deep breath and trust your training.  You've put in all the hard work, now it's time to enjoy the experience.  Treat your body to the taper so it is ready to perform at its best Saturday.   Don't even think about putting in more miles than what your plan calls for this week.  You ARE ready!

You will be fine. Like Cassie said, don't feel compelled to do more because it won't work. It will only screw things up. If it makes you feel bette, I am doing an 11.6 mile race this weekend on one long run of 6 miles. If I must throw in some walk breaks, I will and it may be the slowest of the 4 times I will have run this race but who cares. Go out and have a good time. Really try to enjoy miles 3-9 when you are warmed up but not tired. Good luck.
Scott

Calm down.  If you can't enjoy it, there's really no point in doing it.  Your ready.  You've  trained.  Just make sure to get to the event early enough that you have time to loosen up, meet some people, and take it all in.  Don't worry about time, just set a pace and stick to it.  Save enough so that you can always make sure are running with good form when the camera guys are taking pictures.  Remember whatever time you finish in will be your PR.

You are ready! The weather will be perfect on Saturday for the run. What are you going to do to celebrate when finished? A massage, a bubble/epsom bath; plan something to celebrate your accomplishment!

Thanks everyone! I'm just a bit nervous, but I'm sure it will be fine. I need to quit focusing so much on "time" and more on "finishing", which won't be a problem!

Rob, you are right...this will be my PR for a Half.

Mary, I am going in for a nice massage within the first few days after!  Other than that, I have lunch Sunday with a group of women that I graduated from HS with in Poulsbo...haven't seen many since then!

Thanks everyone...I will keep you posted on the finish!
