Post-strength training protein

I have started working with a personal trainer and was told that within 45 mins after my workout, I need to consume a certain type of protein (shake preferred).  When I told him I had WLS 18 months ago, he said to check with my nutritionist to find what is most adequate for my needs; it may not necessarily be the same whey protein as I was taking.

Unfortunately, my doctor closed his practice so nutrition counselling is not easily available now.  Would anyone here  happen to know whether the shakes and bars we consume for WLS are also adequate to use after weight (strength) training?

Thanks!

Post workout, a high protein shake is a great recovery tool, so our WLS shakes are great.  They have a small amount of carbs but are mainly protein.

I've had a trainer for a while, and he says the after workout shake is basically up to how we feel.  If I have an extra hard w/o, then I do have a shake or some coconu****er, or gatorade recovery.....

Sometime trainers are also peddling their wares, so just stick to your WLS shakes, no need to re-invent the wheel.

You don't really need to ingest a certain kind of protein though. Studies show that ingesting something with a combination of carbs and protein with 30 min to 2 hours after a workout works better for muscle recovery than ingesting something that is only carbs.

But there is no study that says what type of protein is the best or what is the optimal ratio of protein to carbs. It just hasn't been studied that much. People have their theories, but that's all they are.

The most common recommendation I see not coming from someone selling special nutrition drinks is to have a glass of low fat chocolate milk. Personally, I can't drink 8 oz of milk (lactose intolerant) so I eat cheese sticks or have some Fluid Recovery Drink.

I use a whey protein isolate shake and shoot for 30-40g of a carb after that and try to get it within 30 minutes after strength training.
