I disagree about upping your calories. We aren't guys and our metabolisms are slower.

I would up the protein instead. I would also wait it out. THe first week or so of a drastic increase in your workouts is going to have you retaining water and tired. (You did double your workouts, right? Or am I reading it wrong?)

I trained for triathlons on 700-900 calories and I increased my workouts gradually, add in 1 more a week and making sure to take it easy every 3rd or 4th week or so. Every time my exercise increased in intensity, my surgeon had me eat more protein and that gave me the energy I needed. I did eat carbs but not more carbs. I ate the carbs I was going to eat right before a workout rather than spreading them out during the day.

I will try the concentrating the carbs around my early day workout. Also, I had wondered about the calorie increase b/c I am VSG and don't have malabsorption. I think I wil see where my body is next week during week 2. Like I said, my protein is 70-90, so maybe I can get it up around 100. I am hopeful that I will still see some loss when I weigh on Thursday. =) thanks

I just wrote an article last night where I listed my calories, my protein and my carbs along with how many hours a week of exercise I was doing and how much weight I lost during that period.

It might be helpful to see how at what points I had to increase protein and calories. You can see that I didn't go much above 900 until I was very close to goal.

Also, in spite of people telling you that you HAVE to up your calories or you will "go into starvation mode", I never stalled doing this. Starvation mode is largely a myth. In studies of starvation, the subjects never stopped losing weight even though their metabolism did slow way down. Starving yourself does a lot of other bad stuff, but causing plateaus is not one of them. (And people with 50 lb or more to lose aren't starving themselves if they eat a VLCD -- we have plenty of fuel stored in our fat!)

The trick is to eat enough to fuel your daily activities, including your workouts but no more. It's a delicate balance.

I was at many stalls during my journey and even a few gains of a few pounds. And I had to increase my food intake because if you exercise alot like I do your body goes into starvation mode. I eat 6 meals a day to get in all my calories and protein in a day. Sometimes it took me a month or longer to break a pleateau just don't give up. Strength training 3 times a week is important as well as cardio. We eat every day we should do some type of exercise every day even if it is for an hour. I do more than hour because I love to exercise now. I use to be such a couch potato. I do find myself lately sitting on my butt after I get home from the gym so at night the last few days I put on dvd and just move. Even if I just do it a low intensity to get my body moving and burn more calories. Tonight I did it more high intensity it all depends on how much energy I have and if I need to burn more calories as well. I am scared of gaining the weight back and of maintance. I still want to get down to 130. My doctor goal for me was between 140 and 150 and that is where I am at today at 140.2 my weight fluterates from day to day. So it can go up which frustrates me and then I tend to work myself harder at the gym. I also look back on what I ate and what I did for exercise. I log all my food intake and exercise. I also just got the body bugg about a month ago and love it. It really shows me what I am burning and how much calorie deficit I have and how many steps I am taking and how long I am doing moderative activity. so I can look to see if I need to extra workout if I didn't burn enough calories to be in my deficit for the day. Or if I need to cut back on my food intake. Its important to get in enough water in the day as well.
