Its lonely out there

This isn't a question or anything, just need to talk. I am in the full swing of training for triathlons(Sep & Oct) and half marathons (Nov & Feb), and its getting lonely out there. On my long ride days I ride around 23-25 miles, and on run days I run a little over 6 miles up to 6.5 miles as of now. I know my husband would be happy to join me,but he is deployed to Iraq right now. Our kids are 1 and 3,so they can't really join in either. I'm always asking around if anyone is interested in joining me,but once I tell them I run they are out,or the ones that do run, when I tell them my distance they are out, and they look at me like I am nuts when I let them know how much an entry level road bike costs (my trek 1.1c was only $620,you should see the looks I get about that around here). Sorry everyone about the vent, I am just fusterated and need support. I am self-motivated so I can handle the training on my own, but it would be nice to have someone to ride with mostly, no cycling clubs around here to join, or tri clubs for that matter.

I was doing the couch to 5 K on my own when I saw a sign at the Y about a beginners running group. I joined and that will be two years ago in September. The person who started it is an experienced runner; multipe running events from 5 K to marathons. Twelve of us started and there were varying degrees in the group. A few of us were total beginners and a few others had done 1/2 marathons in the past. Our goal was a 5 K on Thanksgiving. We have progressed individually. Some only do 5K's and others just completed a half. I am attempting a half in Setember to mark my 2 year anniversary. We meet every Saturday and I think there are still 10  out of the original 12. Some of us meet during the week as well to run. I hate running alone now so I feel your pain!
The point of my novel above is maybe you can run with others at a lesser distance once a week for companionship and you would be motivating to others! The leader of our group runs with me the second slowest once a week before work and I really appreciate her support and company!
Our local running store also has a running group that meets three times a week; they are hard core runners.
I see a lot of bikers meet at the Y parking lot and leave from there together for long rides.
I realize with two toddlers it is very hard to get your workouts in. Good luck!

What about try asking someone to bike alongside you whilst you run, even at 6 miles or so, an excercise beginner should be able to manage that pretty easily.

I understand and feel your pain.  Schedules, distances, and speed; its tough to coordinated and find a buddy.  Most want to do some recreational walk or go once and it more than they wanted, or I am too slow or not going far enough for them,....so I just go alone 99.9% of the time. But thats the way it usually is. leadership is leading and leading is usually out there, leading, by themselves.  If you wait till you find somebody, your regular training will suffer.  You will cross paths with friends along the way and it makes the competitons and events all the more enjoyable to visit with other enthusiasts.  There must be some folks that are supportive for you to get your training in with a 1 and 3 yr old and a deployed husband. Or do yo use alot of Benedryl?
They aren't out there training with you but don't discount their presence.

Hang tough, its lonely but it s still rewarding to our self worth, self accomplishment, esteem, confidence health, and may you and hubby can do PT together when he gets back.  He'll enjoy the company too.

My sister moved in with us right before my surgery to help out during my recovery and for while my husband is deployed. She watches my kids while I am training. I am so grateful to have her, training would be so difficult right now without her here.

i train solo for the most part, it is definitely lonely sometimes, but on the flip side, very flexible :)  there has to be group rides somewhere close to where you live, common places for group rides are gyms and local bike shops (almost all LBS's have some sort of regular rides).
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Yes it is very flexible,I can appriciate that much. My local bike shop is an hour drive away, so I can look there for info on group rides, since its an hour away and I just had to have a V8 Durango(gas guzzler) it won't be able to be an every week thing but I would be able to work a few rides a month into my schedule.
