So I figure I need the motivation of preparing for an event in order to exercise, so I just signed my husband and myself up for the San Jose Rock and Roll half marathon Oct. 3rd.  I still want to train to run a 5K someday, but I figure after Sunday, I should be able to keep up the walking for the next one, and I hear the R&R is a LOT of fun.

Peace.

Great, Jan!

I signed up for a 10K in November after finishing my first half in June.  It is helping to keep me motivated to excercise as well.  And, as a plug to this forum, a suggestion I received here!

Congrats!  Always good to think of the NEXT thing!  :)

Just don't do what I did years ago...and get ****y.  totally undertrained for something, and was completely dissatisfied with my performance.

Push yourself and have mini goals for the next half, like to run the first X miles, or walk sprint every 3rd mile... whatever works for you!

My hubby is a runner, and I would love to work up to running a mile, walking a milke, running a mile, ...  But so far, I can jog maybe 100 feet?   So I think I will work up for that.  I've also got some coworkers signing up so we'll be training at lunch twice a week.    There's also a 5K around Halloween I'm thinking of trying to run.

Wow, who knew I'd ever be wanting to enter these things.  I'm still in shock!
