For almost 2 wks now i have had horrible workouts. Usually I have that good feeling that I worked out hard and did an good job. I usually am competetive with myself so I am always doing more intensity or time or weights. I like to always push a little. Lately I barely get through my 20 min elleptical warm up. Weights I manage but no extra and then the treadmill I am talking myself into finishing. Today really sucked and I stopped the treadmil early and didn't go to water aerobics. I felt exhausted. I dont feel like I am coming down with anything. I usually do these long workouts 3x a week and feel good afterwards. I have been working out since October but this particular routine since May. My surgery was in Feb.  I know you can have a tough day once in awhile but 2 wks.....any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks

The weather (heat/humid) is sucking the life out of me.  I'm hydrated and proteined up, but just can't seem to really feel great unless I'm backed into it (I go for a walk to a destination and once I'm there, I have to walk home!).

I'm not sure if that's the same for you since you are working out indoors, but I think the air just sucks everywhere.

It might be time to switch up your routine.  The same thing just happened to me...I've been dreading going to the gym.  I'm 100% fine once I'm there, but just knowing that I'm going to be doing the SAME thing that I've been doing for the past few months stinks.

Vary up your cardio - row, arc trainer, eliptical, bike, treadmill, etc...  Sometimes I'll just drop my normal routine and pick one of the "workouts" that are pre-programmed on the equiptment that I don't work with - 10k, 5k, intervals, hills.  I know that when I row, I row against myself....on my long row days I try to keep my average time/500meters within a certain range of a higher intesity...head games...but they keep me entertained.

Add some new stuff into your routine - if you're doing nautilus machines, add some free weights, add/change up your core exercises, if you're doing free weights, add in a few of the nautilus machines, throw the push up or sit up challenge (http://hundredpushups.com/index.html)  into your routine...

You could take it outside (bike, walk, run, swim, kayak, hike...) if you're getting bored with the gym in general.  Or you may be due for a few days off...like seriously off...no gym.  It'll leave you craving the cardio you've grown bored of...trust me!! :)

Hope some of these help...I'm sure others will have more suggestions as well - these guys are AMAZING resources!!  Best of luck!!

Have you had your bloodwork done recently?  Could be your Bs or Iron or something else is low.  Or you could just need to change something up and do something different to make it more fun to hit the exercise.  Some of the classes can really help to motivate you.    Need to put the fun back in it soon, otherwise you'll  lose interest.

A lot of those responces are really good. Sometimes, you just go through a funk. I usually look at sleep and heat. Over the last three weeks, I have had about 3 good runs out of 21 and the heat and humidity are the culprit. Can't wait till it starts cooling down!

Hey lady!  I haven't read all the replies but I did see Katie's and I think its sound advice.  Try switching up your routine--do something different.  Try out a new sport, piece of equipment, consider taking a class.  I've been training for 5ks since January and working out with a personal trainer---but I've decided I need something to get me excited again so I'm exploring Zumba classes and bicycling.

HTH--you are doing so awesome and I'm so proud of you!!

Hi Kelli,
Thankyou for your kind words. I am thinking of checking into other classes at the Y. I probably have gotten myself into a rut.
I am going to (walk) in another 5K August 8th. I may even try to jog a little. I havent done too much jogging yet because of the knees. I hope next year when I enter I will do more than walk....I figure its a start and I will try to beat my previous time that I got on May 22nd. You are an inspiration to me.I love the picture of you and your brother after your first 5K.

I have found for myself that if I have been consistent w/my workouts, week in, week out.  That it may just be time for a break !  Maybe take a week off.  I have found that when I return, I am actually stronger and I am able to do more.  Jazzy J
