Update on the petition thread.

I saw the story on the local news tonight and it's worse than I thought.  Some dingbat was riding her mountain bike and ran into a pipe barrier that was painted bright yellow and had reflective tape on it.  Anyway, she won 3 million $ in a lawsuit.  I can understand the utility companies objection to that and the threat to close the trails.

The petition is to get the legislature to visit the issue.  There is a law on the books that makes utility companies exempt from lawsuits if they are allowing people recreational use on their land.  There is apparantly a loop hole that was exploited to file the suit.  What the people want to do with the petition is get the loop hole closed through legislation and give the utilities reason to keep the trails open.

I quite honestly don't think that it will be an issue.  There are many passionate people behind this and some law makers are already involved.  Thanks to everyone who signed.
