Any of you have a recommendation on glasses - should I just get some cheap sunglasses, or is there anything special about the ones they sell at the bike shop?

I don't do serious biking but did take a 23 mile bike ride last week.  The sunglasses I wore were the type (bought at walmart) that can fit over regular glasses and totally cover the eyes - tops, bottom and sides.  Being a contact lens wearer, I go for these over regular sunglasses for my bike rides because otherwise the air/wind coming at me bothers my eyes and dries them out.

Really all you need is some glare protection and something that will protect from foreign objects.
I suggest something that wraps around, bugs in the eye or kicked up gravel etc are not nice.

The better quality glasses will have less distortion as you look out the full range of the lense area.

However, you don't have to spend a ton them to get good ones.

I wear $20 Foster Grants I got at CVS.

But the sports one that cost $50-100 do offer better protection on the sides. I lust for a pair of those.

This article talks about what I mentioned earlier.
The markup on these things is huge and you don't get much benefit beyond a certain point.
