I dunno if they post much anymore but I surely want to thank Scott William, my original inspiration to run a marathon and A.J. and the original Ironlady Sherry who were my inspiration to get involved with triathlon.   3 years and over 50 races later I finally crossed the finish line of my first Ironman.   :)

Race report follows...

Congrats Chad,..its been a long road and you've endured much to get there.. You were an ironman before the race but now you have a medal to erase doubt in the eyes of the world.
That is an amazing physical feat.  You might have finished n the back of your age group of the race, but for men in your age group locally, statewide, nationally, worldwide; you are in the cream of the crop.

While I haven't been on the boards much myself; it was good to read about you and your continues success.  I rember when you we so bummed after  Katrina and the conditions locally as to how you could feel good about training amidst so much loss and devestation.  I bet you are a hometown inspiration to many.  You certainly are to us on the Execise and Fitness board.

Hey Chad, great race report and once again CONGRATS man, you did a great job.

I was wondering if you would care to share some info on things like your training, what you expected, what actually happened, how things differed, were you physically prepared, mentally prepared, was it harder than you thought it would be etc.

I know you were saying you probably wouldn't do another 140.6, has that changed any as the time has gotten further removed from the event?  Why, why not.

What would you do differently?

Thanks

Scott

Scott I'm actually writing a recurring column now for Daily Triathlon.   My first article for them focused on my perspective, a total amateur, on the training for an Ironman distance race.  I can sum it up in a few sentences.   It's not so much about the actual race.  Don't get me wrong, it was the most difficult single day of my life.   It's more about just making it to the starting line.   The training was mentally and physically draining to say the least and I'm actually going through 'training withdrawal' now to some effect as I continue to recover.

A link to the article is below:

As for doing another one?   I doubt it.  If I get invited to Kona or I win a lottery slot I wouldn't pass that up for the world but doing another domestic or international Ironman distance race?   Right now, probably not.   IMCDA was not a beginners Ironman.   That was probably a mistake for me.   If I do another one I'll probably do Florida or maybe the new one in Texas if it's flat.  Mountain climbing on the bike during a 112 mile ride was taxing on me and being from Louisiana I had little to no places to prepare for that.

I don't think I would do anything differently and I have no regrets.   It's been a ride but it's a ride that I still feel is just beginning.   I will tri the rest of my life.   I love the 70.3 distance so I will continue to do 4 or 5 of those a year at least plus numerous sprints and olys.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.   They mean a lot and I can only hope that I am able to touch that person that was me out there 4 years ago to let them know that anything IS possible.

Have a great day!
