Which do I use??

I use www.mapmyrun.com to track my runs (miles, pace, mph, etc.)

I use www.nutridiary.com to track my food, log my workouts, etc. which gives me a good idea where I am at with my expenditure vs. intake. I've used it since two weeks  pre-op, and swear by it.

Here is my dilema:  Logged todays workout, which equated to about 1000 cal. in "the bank" on my nutridiary. HOWEVER, when I logged my run on my mapmyrun training log...it shows a 713 calorie expenditure.  NO CLUE AS TO WHY THE DIFFERENCE!

Is it because my pace got quicker? I don't get it.  This was my fastest pace to date 9:13.  I have always thought the rule was basically 100 calories per one mile if you were in your upper heart rate zone.

*sigh*  Not sure which one to go with!  Your thoughts?

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Do both use your age, height, weight, gender??? If not, I would trust the one that DOES...

I wouldn't trust either of them. If they aren't using your HR in the calculations, then they are just guessing based on averages and both could be wrong.

I use a number of sources that I calibrate against my HRM when I remember to wear it. Then I put in the amount that seems reasonable based on all the sources and what I've seen from my HRM in the past.

It's all just a guessing game unless you have tested resting metabolic rate
Here is some info on that: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/help_burn_accurate.php
It talks about how things vary and what is more accurate etc.

I look at several of them, then generally I take the one that is the lowest as long as it isn't too far off.
So I would probably have chosen the 713 calorie one.

I think most of the machines or programs over estimate the burn.

I have heard to take 70% of your body weight and multiply that per mile. That has always made sence to me. It factors in size and intensity.
