Hi Folks;

I just had my surgery on June 22nd.  I am absolutely interested in physical activity and have actually set a goal to run a full marathon.  Prior to the surgery I finished two half marathons (walking).  I really want to embrace this new lifestyle and I find exercising is a wonderful way of letting my mind be free of all of the extra noise.

Here's the thing, I'm not sure how or where to start.  Any suggestions or resources would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Michelle

 I'm with you!  New to this too.  I did do cardio for a couple months prior to surgery.  I know for that I joined a gym that had those heart rate monitors on the machines, it told me the target rate for my height and weight.  I'm not sure how to do all that without the machines though.

I was sitting there just before our fourth of july day parade I seen the marathon runners and inside made a goal to myself to complete one with some running.  :)

Welcome and congrats on the new lease on life. You have come to the right place... Best suggestion would be to start with the www.c25k.com . This will help you progress from a walker to a runner. Best of luck, and stick around... TONS of incredibly inspiring and motivating folks here...

welcome (to the both of you), best way to keep motivated is to participate in the daily workout thread on this board.  regarding next steps, what dan said, start with walking and then move into other things, the couch to 5K program is the best way to start out as it is very structured and you can go at your pace.  best of luck and we hope to see you both around here....
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.
