Good morning everyone.  I am new here and very excited to get back on track.  I had RNY in Feb of 07 and never really got down to goal.  I maintained for over a year, but have started gaining since 9/09 and really need to stop before it gets out of control.  I went to see my surgeon yesterday and his assistant suggested not letting myself go hungry to prevent over eating and I got some protein drinks to help with the in-between time.  I need to start exercising again.  I was walking and playing softball but I pulled some ligaments in my knee from the strain of batting and then taking off running to first so I had to quell that.  I do have a membership to the Y which I have been going to forever, but have been thinking maybe another gym will be more motivational.  Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and look forward to chatting to you all.

Glad to have you join us!  This is a wonderful group.  They will motivate, inspire and fuss at you.
Congratulations on making the committment to fitness and weight loss.

My suggestion would be to find a fitness activity to really enjoy and can stick to in the future.  On this board we have marathoners, ultra marathoners, tri-athletes, but we also have folks that are working to their first 5K or 10K.  Find something you like and set a goal and then get after it!!

We will support you every step of the way.

Thanks for the response and offer of support.  I do need to find an activity that I enjoy doing, and is easy on the knees.  I was running , but the damage it did to my joints was worse than the benefits it provided in weight loss.  I am going to try swimming laps at the Y I think.

Welcome to the crew.  The first step back is the hardest.  I think switching gyms might help motivate you.  Make yourself accountable by posting your progress on this board.  We'll support you all the way.

Welcome to our little party!

As was suggested, it's kind of nice to keep accountable for your exercise to post on the daily workout thread.  It also helps you see the progress you're making.

There are all sorts of fun things to do, so find your niche.  Water is great for anyone with joint issues.  Some of the things my husband and I do together (he doesn't actively train or exercise like I do) are bike riding (which is great for strengthening the muscles around the knee), walking, and just being outside doing almost anything.  I know lots of folks who do yoga and pilates as well.

I'm 6.5 years out and have basically worn the same size clothes for about 5.5 years.  The weight goes up at different times of year, but isn't so bad to get off again with a little effort.

Posting here is a good way to be more conscious of what you do on a daily basis, which also helps.
