Race recovery tips

So, I've done some reading on this topic elsewhere, but am curious what other folks here think helps them the best the first few days after a race.

After the 1/2 on Sunday I did walk the dog a mile here, a mile there.  I also took a sit in a cold bath for 5 minutes (I knew I couldn't stand ice, and I only lasted 5 minutes in the coldest bath I could draw).

Yesterday I walked a little bit and stretched, drinking up all the water I could.

Considering going for a low-key walk/jog tonight, but am still majorly stiff in my quads/hams.  I'm also getting an adjustment from the chiropractor tonight - YAY!

Anyway, any tips are welcome.  I don't feel too bad, but would love to know what others think helps them feel BETTER!

It sounds like you have done everything that I would do. I think that the cold bath is fine as a british study has shown that the cold water is just as effective as ice at speeding recovery. I might go for a short run some time. Also, a foam roller might help a bit but make sure that you roll toward the core so that the toxins can be processed by your core organs. Congrats on your soreness. You earned it!!!

I walked a lot yesterday, but still felt wicked stiff.  This morning I went to the gym and rowed (suprise!!) and did the eliptical/running stride maching (i really don't know what it's called, but it's not a regular eliptical) and I feel almost 100% this afternoon.  Even my knee is back to a normal size!  It was definately the size of a cantalope for the past two days...

I'm planning on going running in the a.m....which is funny because Sunday afternoon I swore up and down that I was never running again.  Guess that wore off pretty quick!

I'm looking into a few 1/2 marathons for the fall.  I have a running friend in DC who wants to do one, so I'm coo  rdinating with her.  *fingers crossed* she likes the timing of Wicked!  (or one late enough after that I could run both)

I had a nice visit with my chiropractor today.  lower back needed an adjustment!

Sue,
Here are some articles our coaches sent us about recovery.  I found them helpful.  Hopefully, you will, too.
