3-mile run with four 2-minute intervals in the a.m.
10-mile bike in the p.m.

I started training with a heart rate monitor. So, it was a new twist to set the interval speed with a goal of hitting 150 bpm for each set. I had to keep bumping the speed up higher to hit my target heart rate. Typically, I would have kept a constant pace, based on some preconceived number.

So, I guess my coach was right about being able to push harder than we thought we could on our hard days with the help of a heart rate monitor. Equally imporant is keeping the heart rate low on the easy days. She says endurance athletes have a tendency of training too much in the middle - training too hard on easy days and not hard enough on hard days.

Nadda.
Which means, I am going to  make myself get up and do at least a 6.5  mile run in the  morning. Rain or shine. WHO AM I KIDDING!!! IT IS SEATTLE AREA!! IT WILL BE RAINING!

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in
Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.
