Peter's Canyon Trail Series RACE REPORT...
Hey All,
Nothing major to report. Since my surgery was pushed back a week, I looked for a racing event this weekend, and was VERY pleased to find a 5 mile trail run in Tustin, CA... About 30 minutes from my Mother-In-Laws house and about 10 minutes from where the OH convention was on a THURSDAY NIGHT!!! Does it get better than that? I thought it would be a little event, but turned out to have 400+ people racing.
It was overcast and cool at 70 degrees, and clouds were looming. The race started promptly at 6:15pm, and as the race director begins the pre-race briefing, he says, "You all know each year we try to mix things up a bit at the race, so today, we will start off asceding to THE RIM OF THE CANYON, and the last half of the race will be descending back down it." UHHHH OK...... DUDE.... He was not joking. There were some brutally steep and looooooooooooong climbs... about 900' worth in 5 miles. It was a tough little race, but was absolutely stoked to finish in 43:45. That is under a 9 minute mile on those dang trails and I have to say a PR for sure! Anyways, it was a fun race and kind of centimental as it will be my last race I will ever do with all of the excess skin I am carrying from weight loss.
On a side note, there was a couple of people who were on an EPIC journey that I had the honor of meeting... Here is their website: http://impossible2possible.com/?v=home
The 2 of these folks are running 50 miles a day in 50 states in 65 days! They finished their 50 miles for yesterday at this race and I had the opportunity to sit and rub elbows and listen and share some Ultra war stories... IT WAS AWESOME. They were then headed to the airport to fly to Hawaii to finish 50 miles there today, and then they have 4 more stops before their journey is complete. THAT is gettin it done folks. Anyways a great event, a great day, and an awesome way to close this chapter of my journey and open the door to the next. Onward and upward ya'll....

Sounds like a GREAT time! And what amazing stories you must have heard/and shared, with the impossible to possible people!
Yay about the PR!!
Cannot wait to hear how your surgery goes. I get the referral for mine in August (18 month post op). So...starting to gather information and get excited!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning inAfrica , a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.
