For my first run since WLS, I ran 30 minutes straight and had a 14 min per mile pace.  Is that ok for someone starting off?

That is awesome!
If you are worried about speed look into interval training.  You just increase the speed segments.
If it is the time you are running the same thing.  You just increase the intervals.

Keep up the good work.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

30 minutes?  That's awesome!  Took me 2 months of training to run that long!

I swore to myself that once I hit 199, I would start running.  I am going out today, so wish me luck.  I will say that if I do half that time (straight)  I will be soooo happy!
You are an inspiration!!!
