Does anyone have a bicycle that they do not want anymore to give away or sale for overweight individuals(400lbs or above capacity), or does someone know of a place that sells bicycles for the overweight in IL or in the vicinity of chicago. Also are there any recommondations for tire and rims for a bicycle. Email address is [email protected].

If you buy a used bike add double walled rims then you will be fine.  If you go to a bike shop then you can get what you need. Stay away from the dept stores.

You can look on craigslist and find a good used Trek, Cannondale or Giant. The frames are aluminum and are very strong. I started riding at about 380. I have a Trek.

I would still visit a bike shop and be fitted for a bike so you know what size you need when you are looking.. Bike shops also sell pre owned bikes

good luck

It depends on how heavy you are but a lot of today's bikes are rated to hold 300 lb. or sometimes even more so you may not need a special one.

ETA oh, I saw the 400+ lb. in the second reading.

There is a company that specializes in bikes for the SMO. They are called Super-Sized Cycles but the web site appears to be down tonight.

I have a friend that lives in the Racine area who is 400+ lb  and he is riding a Waterford bike.  His is a steel frame and was custom built for him.  Yes the custom building is more expensive, but over the ling haul most likely will be a better bike, built just for you making riding more comfortable and enjoyable so you are riding more.  There web site is www.waterfordbikes.com .  If you would like more info regarding my friend and his experience with Waterford let me know and I will put him in contact with you.  My email address is [email protected]

Thank you so much for the reply. I am looking over the site as we speak. I am trying not to spend to much at this time but if  have  to I will. I could use some info on the experience that your friend has had with the bike and the price of it. My email address is [email protected] .
