OWWWEEEEE
Surgery 5/24.
Went back to work 6/1. Lots of walking at work and some more walking at home.
Today I decided to start formally "exercising" as I want to do 5K by Thankgiving. Walked at what I consider a fast pace for now, but is really turtle speed (2 miles in 30 minutes)...threw in a few short sprints to keep the heart rate up.
OUCH! Hips and back are killing me now
This had better get less painful :P

i love your ambition! i hesitate to tell you to slow down (it always bothers me when people tell me to slow down), but make sure you are ready before you run (i.e., you need to make sure you heal up from surgery), i didn't start running for months post-op. that being said, go at your pace if you can start running sooner than later great, but make sure you don't overdo it early on and make sure you are keeping your surgeon in the loop on your plans until he/she clears you for all exercise. good luck and again, i love your ambition!
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

A agree with Bill. Be careful, don't go out too fast (same advise for any Race!), and make sure you keep your doc informed.
Unless you have post-op complications, you should be golden for a Turkey Trot! Just tell yourself it is okay to walk part or all of your 5K. Lots of people have, will, do.
Also, make sure that you have your run/walk assessed at a good and reputable running store. If you have the right shoes for your "style" (ie; how your ankles and foot moves/lands), that will help with the hip and back pain.
You may want to print out C25K program, maybe print it off, and take to your next post surgical appt. and show your doc. He/She will be impressed, I'm sure.
Take care!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning inAfrica , a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.
