Granby 10k Race Report

Totally started off on the wrong foot for today's race...I got lost on the way to the park.  Thank you Town of Granby, MA for not having ANY signs up for your park which was NOT on Route 202 as indicated on the website...awesome!!

I was pulling into the parking lot (the second one, because the FIRST parking lot was on the finish line side and the only way to the other side was across the pond...to which there was no pedestrian bridge..again, awesome) all the runners were headed out to the starting line.  I put my sneakers on as I was parking and ran to the registration table...suprise, they knew who I was when I said I was pre-registered because I was the only one who hadn't checked in yet!  I tossed my t-shirt into my car and was off to the starting line...which was no longer there because the race had started.  I passed the starting line officials who were walking back to the registration table on my way to the course.  I asked if the course was marked better than the park and they told me just to keep taking right turns and i'd be all set!

I saw the large group of runners off in the distance and did my best not to let them get out of my sight but figured it was my race and I was really just using it for a training run for my half next week anyways.  It had been raining all morning, but had stopped just before the race began (like really began) and was wicked humid.  I did pass three people, who were walking, right at the beginning which made me feel a little bit better...hey, at least I wouldn't be the last one over the finish line!!!  I had to stop and stretch my butt/hip twice but was non-stop otherwise.  It was a pretty flat course, a couple of small hills, nothing too major.  I kept this one guy in my sights the entire race until he passed the girl in the green tank and then she became my marker.  We ran the last 1/2 mile together, it was her first 10k as well...and I managed to finish a second before her...come on, I had to pass her at the end!! :)

Not my best race...I'm a little OCD about my pre-race routine, so that totally threw me off, but I had a solid run and that's really all that counts.  I was satisfied with my time, was hoping it would have been better...closer to an hour, but I hadn't done an official 10k yet, so I have to start somewhere!

Let the tapering for my half begin!!! :)

AWESOME KATIE!
What a great report. I hear ya about being a bit OCD pre-race. I get like that too!!

Good time! I'm aiming to match your pace for my first 8K tomorrow...

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

these things happen, but it seems you recovered nicely in the end.  now you have a PR!  congrats on the race and good luck w/ your taper, just remember, it will suck, it will mess with your head, but it will ultimately make your race.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.
