So I'm 2 years post op so far I've lost 130 pounds and I'm going to admit... I went to the gym today for the first time post op... I know that sounds horrible but I'm 195 now and trying to lose another 20 or 30 pounds and tone up before plastic surgery in august. So I went on the elliptical and thought I was going to die after 3 minutes I pushed myself to do 6 but really thought I was going to die... and the sweat was pouring off me I have to admit I was a little embarrassed already but then I got off of the elliptical and could barely walk to spray bottles to clean the machine off, I then tried to do some weights and just couldn't do another thing my whole body felt like Jello... So my question is where do I start? I was so embarrassed leaving the gym after 10 minutes covered in sweat and barely able to walk I cannot do that every day lol. Also when I was fat, I went to the gym worked out and never broke a sweat I feel like I'm in worse shape now then I was then? Although this was my first time on an elliptical. Anyway any advice would be appreciated!

The elliptical is tough. I'd start out on the treadmill and alternate with the bike, maybe do some swimming if you have access to a pool. Start slow and just do a little more every day. Everybody feels like you're feeling when they first start. When I got back in the pool I could barely do 4 lengths, now I can swim non-stop for 45 minutes. You'll get stronger every day if you just keep at it.

It is meant to be a running plan, but I have used it for the elliptical and for the stationary bike.
It is basically just an interval program.
They start you off easy alternating between walking and running, or cycling slow and cycling faster.
It really doesn't matter what Aerobic exercise you do as long as you can do it at two different speeds.

It is meant to give you success at the beginning, build confidence and a good starting point.  It will get harder as it increases the amount of running and decreases the amount of walking over the course of the program.

I started with 15 min in the pool & 15 min on the bike.  I would go up 5 min each week till I was at 30 min each.  Then I started walking on the treadmill at a 4.5 incline for 20 min & then did 20 min of walking for 2 min & running for 1 min & started with weight lifting.  I then went to the stair stepper & started with 13 min & then 15 & finally made it to 30 min.  I was also doing weight lifting with it.  Now every week I try to burn more calories on the stair stepper than I did the week before & I love it.

thanks for all the info everyone! I ended up finding a personal trainer that I can meet with every 2 weeks to help me get a routine going... so hopefully I will be able to figure this out

Hi,

My 2 cents:

1. Eliptical is the way to go, just start slow and add a minute each time you go. Work your way up to 10 minutes. Then start increasing your speed.
2. Fight boredom and stay motivated by changing it up. Do 2min of each and repeat 1 or twice. Eliptical 2-4 min, Bike 2-4 min, Treadmil 2-4 min then repeat
3. Drink a lot of water and vary your routines.

All the best
