Driveby intro?
Okay. Some boards do intros, some don't. I'll do one just in case.
I started interval walking/jogging in March, moved to full "jogging" (at snail's pace, but it IS jogging) in April, and am now slowly working on getting more endurance / speed.
Did first 5k the 2nd Sat in May, finished with a (sigh) time of 48:02, 5th in my age group.
Since then, I've been adding some more pacework to my regimen, and really need to add some distance and speedwork, but honestly am really figuring things out on my own as there are few runners in the city I live in.
My biggest hurdle is a condition called Neurocardiogenic Shock, which is a byproduct of my RNY. I tend to dehydrate very quickly, and my blood pressure will suddenly drop, which, of course, means I can as well. So even on "short" jogs (my neighborhood is exactly 3.1k -- how perfect is that?) I have to carry 24oz of water just to keep hydrated so I don't fall down go boom.
Always looking for suggestions, ideas. I've got access to a treadmill at a gym (which I had NOT been going to because I'm an idiot), and had been only working around the neighborhood. I've since decided my neighborhood runs will be my "easy" runs with my treadmill work my "real" runs.
I put all of my info on Runkeeper and DailyMile. So if you have accounts there, feel free to find me and add? Easily found at Andrea Ullberg
Looking forward to progressing more.

I saw you in SoCal :-)
Technically, I'm running already. In fact, last night I did 4.57mi. I seem to have some endurance, just not speed (that worked out at a pace of 3.71mph after taking in account warmup and cooldown). I'll look into their "beyond" section, but I've moved beyond the initial stages at least.
You going to the other conns?

Hi Andrea!
You might want to look into a fuel belt so you always have hydration with you but don't have to carry a bottle. I find carrying a bottle throws off my gait and can make me sore.

I've been trying to do the same thing. Started with walking using hand weights and have progressed to jogging portions of my route. My problem is shin splints in my left leg. Do I pu**** and keep alternating jogging and risk making it worse or do I continue with speed walking only until it heals? Is there anything I can do for it?
Thanks.
Meg
Thanks.
