Muscle weighs twice as much as fat, so yes it is possible to gain weight while losing fat.

1 lb of muscle weighs the same as 1 lb of fat.  However, it can retain a lot of water as you are going through any transformation.  Just remember with the muscle and as you get more muscle mass to get rid of the excess fat you really need to do hard cardio to get that heart rate up then follow it up with some hard core "core" work.  Thats when your body has no more sugar to burn and now its going to get that remaining fat in your body to deplete.

You look awesome.

I agree.  I have had people (random) come up to me at the gym saying "oh my goodness you have slimmed down so much.  You are getting skinny."  I was all smiles.  You know switching things up really does help.  Because at some point your body gets used to things.  What I have learned to do is expend all of the sugars in my body to the point where when I do core workout that it has to burn those silly fat cells.  You have to figure out what your personal goals are.  I know I'm boxing in a match next month.  :) I'd love to find out what you end up doing.  Keep in touch.

I keep reading that you need a calorie deficit to lose fat, but a calorie surplus to gain muscle. Which means that, no, you can't lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

OTOH, a lot of people's personal experiences don't jive with that.

So I don't know what to think!
