I am 8 weeks out from VSG. When did you start adding core and ab exercises? Also, do you have any exercise tips? I run/walk 1.5 miles on treadmill about 5 times a week now...and was wondering if that was enough.

Thanks,
C

I am 6 weeks out as of yesterday and going to ask my Dr. today if I can start with resisitance and such, so I can start to work on the flab, which will help build muscle.  I know to start out slowly, but I am itching to get back to that anddd try to increase my gym time as well.
I have started a blog all of my own for this journey.  Please follow me at www.digitalsheep.org.

I added core work shortly after my surgeon cleared me for all exercise including weight training.  This was after my 6 week post-op visit.

As far as tips, i started with walking until i could do other cardio exercises.  The first other exercises were elliptical, stationary bike, stairmaster, and finally running in that order.  Just take your time and work up slowly to avoid injury.  At the same time i started resistance training, but be prepared to lose muscle at this stage no matter what you do.  the key point is, if you don't do resistance exercise the muscle just disappears, if you do it, you can maintain some muscle mass and you aren't in bad shape from a lean muscle mass perspective @ 6-9 months out.  i didn't actually start to gain muscle mass/strength until close to a year out.

good luck!
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

I ended up waiting for two months after I tried a Jazzercise class at 1 month out and it really stressed things.
