Just tooting my own horn. When I started getting ready for surgery last June I was riding a stationary bike for 5 minutes at a time. I built up slowly and regularly walk 1-2 hours daily and have started adding bits of jogging into my routine over the last 2 months or so. Last night I jogged for 40 minutes doing 12 laps around the local track! I don't post much on this board but love reading everyone's accomplishments and am inspired to try my hand at a 5k before years end.
Hey Sunni, that is so awesome. We are all at different fitness levels and getting to the point where you can job 12 laps is so awesome. Good for you and a I think a 5K is such a great goal for you. Keep up your training and keep us posted. Stay healthy and make sure as you increase and get to your 5k goal, drink and take nutrition with you to help get you through it. Something small like a few sports beans or something will help purk you up as you get through your race.

Awesome job! 12 laps around a school track is just about 3 miles! A 5K is 3.106 miles. YOU ARE SOOOOO THERE!!!
My first 5K, last Halloween, was a bit hilly, but still took me just under 48 minutes, and I walked quite a bit.

Awesome! You are definitely ready to register for a 5K. Crossing the finish line is just an amazing reward for adopting an active lifestyle. That 1st one can lead to another and another. And thus, the addiction begins. Have fun!

i agree with the other posters, you are ready, find one and sign up! just make sure you enjoy it. my first 5K was memorial day last year (i am going to run it again this year), and i just recently ran a marathon (in March) and a week ago today finished a half ironman. it is amazing what we can do if we set our minds and make the commitment. good luck!

40 minutes of jogging is awesome! I think the excitement of an event would really fuel you to a whole 5K now!
