Medical update
Good News:
Well I finally got the clearance to swim again. They can see signs of healing on the clavical fracture. It isn't fully healed, but the doctor said go ahead and try to swim. So I'm jumping in the pool tonight.
Now the Bad news
So when I was having the gallbladder issues, they did an ultrasound and found some varices on my liver. They think it is being cause by portal hypertension, but they don't know what's causing it.
They are also seeing varices in my G.I. tract leading down to my stomach and areas indicating gastric reflux. I haven't had any noticeable issues with gastric reflux since the surgery. I used to get it all the time but I haven't felt is since losing all the weight.
They sent me to UCSF to see the head of the liver disease and transplant department. The specialist does not know the cause of this portal hypertension. They think it may be related to my weight loss and or the surgery, as there was no evidence of it in an ultrasound that was taken prior to my surgery. He does suggest we start some medications to lower the pressure in the varices and to treat the acid reflux they found. In addition he wants some special angiography xrays . I'm waiting for them to contact me now to schedule an appointment.. In addition they will want to do annual ultrasound and endoscopy. So I get to go let them stick a needle into my neck so they can inject the dye into me. I'm not looking forward to that. It makes me queasy to think about it... Ugh
If the Angiography shows that the varices are real bad, they will want to put a shunt in to divert the bloodflow and relieve the pressure.

Wonderful GOOD NEWS!!
As for the "bad new"... will keep my fingers crossed for good test results. Sounds like a bit of anxiety producing crap! Hang in there and take care of yourself!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Congrats on being cleared to swim.
Hopefully the tests will find something minor and easily fixed.

Hope the swimming went well last night!
Bummer about the bad news - hopefully it's all stuff they can easily clear up - at least they are catching things and not missing them!
Keep your chin up!

I'm a big subscriber of the head in the sand I don't want to know school.
hahah
I know it's good that they are catching stuff, but now I'm going to fixate on this and it's going to be a big downer. It put me in quite the funk yesterday. I instantly wanted to go back to food for comfort. I managed to avoid doing that, but it's scary how that was my first thought. I want some food.
Food is my drug of choice, always has been, and apparently it always will be as experienced by yesterdays reaction.
