I ran my 2nd 5k Saturday. I improved but still not where I thought I could be. I went from 28:55 3 weeks ago to 26:50 but thought I could get it under 25. Any suggestions on getting faster?

NONE because you are way faster than me!!!

Seriously............just look up ways to do speedwork at runnersworld.com and create a schedule that fits where you are.  I'm aiming for a 28 min 5K like by next year LOL it took me awhile just to get to 30.

Well, I echo what the other ladies have said. My PR for a 5k is a 9:59 pace.

However, I have read up some on "speed play", or fartleks (Swedish word).  There are techniques for increasing speed.  I haven't really gotten into it as of yet. Right now I am just working on my distance/base.

Google it though, it may be helpful!

Nice time on your 5k !
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

The only thing that would add up to your speed is " constant practice". Running every morning and speeding up everytime you run would surely gives you th eopportunity to increase your agility and speed in running.
