When did y'all start jogging and strength training - did you cheat and start before your doc said...
I'm not a patient person. I'm about 3.5 weeks post op (Sleeve), and limiting my exercise to walking (no matter how brisk or how much hills) is killing me. I'd like to get back to jogging and some strength training. The doctor said none of that until 6 weeks. I'm considering "fudging" on that timeline, but would like to hear if anyone else started early and if they had any problems. The logical side of me still doesn't want to hurt that new little sleeve that I just paid for!

Hey
I'm right there with you I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow so almost the same place. My FIRST question in my pre opp appointment was "how soon before I can run?"
He told me that I could start trying around 2 weeks but to stop if it felt at all uncomfortable - it did so I stopped. I tried running again a week ago and it felt totally fine. I was SHOCKED how weak I was. I ran 5 miles the morning of the surgery on an empty stomach - just to give you a reference. The next day however I felt like crap, my incisions were sore so no running again.
This past weekend I got on the bike, the lack of impact made a huge difference. I need to get some sort of exercise in so I'm biking to and from work each day for now. I may try running again this weekend.
Totally get the frustration. Just walking (with everyone running past me) is annoying as Sh*t.

Actually my DR. cheated.
He initially told me 6 weeks for weight lifting.
At my 4 week visit he changed his mind, said I was gtg
But I was not going to do it if he hadn't given me the o.k.
I suggest you stick with your DR's plan

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
For weights I would definatly wait....your sutures are still healing and you could very easily give yourself a hernia by straining to much at this time.
My doc cleared me for aerobic activity "as tolerated" at 3 weeks out. She also cleared me for ab work by I think four weeks out (her words "if you can have sex, you can work out" when I asked her if it was ok to start doing ab work etc)
Jogging does use a decent amout of core strength, and again...potential risk for hernias there....
When did you last see your doc? Any chance you could either see them or call them and tell them this and find out exactly what you can do when and see if they agree with you moving anything up?

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

I was allowed to exercise at 2 weeks out except for weight lifting type stuff. I went back to the gym at 2 weeks and I started jogging at 4 weeks, but things like Jazzercise or Pilates (that really work the core) didn't feel right until about 2 months out.

Thanks for all of the responses. My impatience got the best of me - tonight I went to the gym, and did light weights on legs and arms (so Ididn't try to use my abs to help out with heavier weight), and I stayed away from core exercises. Then we just did a 5K, mixing in a quarter mile jog in between several walking laps. Only did a total of 1 mile jogging, but at a slow pace and more in a shuffle. I felt it if I ran to quickly, so I didn't. Feel OK now, and mostly feel better for having done something more than walking. The mental game is half the battle with me!
My doc has been pretty conservative on all fronts - 2 week liquids pre-op, 3 week liquids post-op, then 2 week puree, then introduction of solids. I've followed the food plan to a T, and really feel that the best benefit to his conservative approach was to give me mental time to "break up" with food. So, it's not too surprising that his exercise recommendations are also more conservative than the other doctors. I think his intentions are to make sure people don't hurt themselves. A worthy goal, but not as easy for impatient folks like me.
I will probably continue to slowly build on the jogging and weights - but will wait to focus on core until the 6 week marker.
Best to everyone - keep on logging the miles!
