ugh my son sucker punched me.... sort of
So I started training my son last night for his first real race.
It's a 2.2 mile run next month on the 6th of June.
I don't expect him to be able to run it all, he is only 7 and never done anything like this before.
So last night he comes home from swim lessons and he is complaining about his stomach hurting, I guess he swallowed too much pool water. So I figure he isn't going to want to run. I trot out into the kitchen and make myself some dinner. Just as II finish eating, he walks into the kitchen with his sweats on and says o.k. let's go.
I had to suck it up and run with what felt like a bowling ball in my stomach. That wasn't fun.
But I was proud that the little guy did it.
Round 2 tonight and I'm not going to let him sucker me like he did last night.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
So proud of your son!!! My son (14) is doing track this year and has gotten so much better since he has been trying to improve with me. The past two races he has ran smart and has finished either second or third, he will be going to City's this weekend (I think it is this weekend).
Good luck on his race, can't wait to hear how it goes!!

Oh if I can keep him motivated, it won't be long before I quit running from embarassment. He will be kicking my A$$
The only bad thing is he certainly has his dad's slowness. He is a plodder right now, but hopefully with some practice that won't be a lifelong burden he will have.
I know as he gets better, he is going to want to burry me in races.
Right now my goal is to just keep him moving.
Once he learns to run a 5k or so without stopping, we might start to race a little bit.
At some point I'm going to have to establish some sort of running dominance, or I'll be watching his number disappear in the distance. hahaha
Congrats on your son's success. That is awesome. Is this his first year of running track?
What distances does he run?

Cody has by far passed me, it did not take long...this is his second year, but has improved so much from all of things I have learned on here. I just can't believe he has listened to me...LOL
He is running the 400 and sometimes the 4x400 relay. Last night he went from last to third place...he had to jump over a guy that tripped right at the finish line...it was epic...I thought for sure he was going down, he was already "windmilling" it...It was a great race to watch.
