I would like a little help settling a dispute between me and my husband.  I have been going to the gym 5 days a week for 60 minutes a pop.  My husband works out 30 minutes 5 days a week.  He thinks I am doing too much and should cut back on my workouts.  I feel good when I am done though.  Am I doing too much???

it depends on your goal.

Here are the guidelines for Adults from the Center for Disease Control.

Your husband would be in that minimal group, you would be in the next group.
Both are good.  It just depends on what your goals are.

My DR. is of the opinion that it's better to do 30 minutes every day than it would be to do 3 days of 1 hour.
You should also try for a rest day in there somewhere so that your body can recover.

Personally Your workout is in line with what I generally do when I go to the gym.  I spend about an hour there either doing treadmill, or elliptical and some weights.

On the weekends, I try to get out for a longer session bike ride or some longer swimming sessions.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

I agree with Scott. Depends on your personal goals. I go to the gym about 5 days per week, doing about 60 minutes (mix of cadio and weights, maybe swimming some laps), then take at least one rest day. I do a long run on the weekend.

Your body will tell you if you are doing too much. As Scott stated, a rest day is important. I never believed it, but after hanging here for a bit, I took the advise to heed, and can tell a difference in quality and recovery if I have a rest day.

Good luck!
Kathy
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in
Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

I DOUBT our opinions will  settle the dispute between you and your husband, but personally I do not think you are doing too much. Often times I have found that people around me say I do too  much so they can feel better about the little bit  or nothing that they do. Just my two cents. Keep your husband on his toes and keep on keeping on and set that bar high! Congrats on all your success and dedication.

If you feel good with what you are doing then that is all that matters. Case closed.

If you're satisfied and happy of what you are doing then there's no need to worry.. Only if you start to feel something wrong then you must not just ignore it. But as long as you are contented of your workout, then go for it!
