Hello.
Well, I'm down 90 pounds in 6 months and am totally motivated to go the distance - literally!
Looking for a new bicycle just to cruise around on.  Don't want to spend too much $ and want to be comfy.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Go to your local bike store, ride their bikes, most have a test program or a low cost rental program.
Find one you like, then start searching craigs list, ebay, etc if money is a big issue, you can get some great deals there.

Specialized,
Trek,
Cannondale,
Giant,
Cervelo,
Felt,

All major players in he bike industry, won't find any junk there.

Try to stay away from the Wal-Mart type purchase, with a bike you really do get what you pay for.  If you go cheap, you will end up replacing parts or have a poorly constructed bike.  At least that has been my experience havind done just that.  Now I'm having to purchase another bike, so it really didn't save me anything by doing that.

Awesome suggestion.  We went to a local dealer and bought a Trek Calypso Cruiser.  She's a beauty!  I haven't been on a bike in 20 years, for soooo many reasons.  Now I have soooo many reasons to be on a bike again!  It rides so nicely and it's time for me to hit the road!  Don't think I'll be in any road race, but it sure feels good to be out there again.

Need a good name for her... :-)

Thanks so much!  You too have a great time on your Trek and good luck with your racing!  That's so cool!

Congrats, glad you found something you like.
Oh did I mention there are extras, helmet, glasses, spare tube, bike pump things like that.
I would sriously consider the extra tube, a bag for under the seat and the tools and pieces to change and or repair the tire if you get a flat.  It sucks to have to walk home if you get a flat.

Cool Blue or just Blue,

The bike reminds me of something from the 50's with the white wall tires, so maybe something from that time, maybe something from American Graffiti or something like that.
You also could name it something to do with your weight loss.

Anyhow, I hope you really enjoy riding it.

Thanks for your suggestions!  Yes, I will need to add the extras - flat tires rot!  You must have lots of experience with bicycles.  Do you ride competitively or just for relaxing?

I suppose I'll need to ride around for a while and be inspired for a name.  I like "Cool Blue", but i've always named my animals and cars with human names, so may as well stick with that habit.

Be well - have a super day!

Well I guess I'd have to say both.  I'm competative by nature , but I'm not good enough to be competative for any wins if that make sense.

It's my favorite exercise.  I really enjoy going out with the local cycling club for their longer weekend rides.

My goal for next year is to do at least (3) 200 mile rides.  They have what's called the California Triple Crown, and I want to do that.

So I need to do a lot more riding to get ready for that.

Triple Crown?  Sounds like a pony race

If you keep riding hard enough, you'll be good enough to compete in the CA race!   Let me know how you do.  I'll be cheering you on from NJ!  Would you mind if I add you to my friends' list?  I may need some cycling inspiration every once and a while...

I don't think I'll be competing any time soon.  I'm more devoted to getting the last 50-60 pounds of my *ss.  I'm definitely determined!

Have fun-
