Recovery Runs...I'm confused

So I gather from research that a Recovery Run is a short easy run, after a  longer run, with the purpose of loosening up the legs, etc.

I've read that after a long/hard run, it is good to take the next day off.

I'd like some input. I know after my longest run of the weekend, I will be sore the next day. So do I take it off, or do I waddle through a recovery run of a couple of miles?

See...told ya I'm confused!  *sigh*
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in
Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

A recovery run is what you describe. Slow and easy if you choose - to loosen up the muscles after a hard workout. Doing nothing can make the soreness linger longer than necassary. The recovery run helps move the recovery along.

Thanks Scott!
I took it easy today, just some brisk walks. Will do a "recovery run" tomorrow...hopefully a few miles.
