How much of my fitness will I lose?

I run about 3 x a week, 3.5- 4 miles each time. I also do an hour of high impact aerobics, weight training, and plyometrics 3x a week. I've done this for about a year and a half, very consistently.

I am having plastic surgery June 1, which will mean I won't even be cleared for exercise walking for 2 weeks, and no cardio for 6 weeks. I will also have to be careful to exercise in moderation after that to control swelling.

How much of my fitness level am I going to lose while I'm recovering? I don't want to mess up my healing or exacerbate my scars, but I am frankly terrified of losing my fitness.

It's hard to say, but whatever you might lose, you will gain back quickly after a FULL and PROPER recovery. I am having Plastics beginning of June too!

Wow, 2 weeks is really quick.  My plastic surgeon erred on the safe side for healing and didn't allow me to do any walking for 4-6 weeks and no intense exercise for 4 months.  Plastics is a lot more intense than the RNY and the recovery is much slower.  I still remember being in a V for the first week after I got home.  Unlike the RNY, the doctor wants you to spend more time in bed and less prancing around.  Good luck to you.  Let things heal correctly even if you have to write off most of the year, and you'll have the rest of your life to get back into fitness.  If you ru**** you may end up having to go back under the knife and lose more time, plus have some nasty looking scars to show.

You guys are absolutely right, and I don't want want to jeopardize my healing at all, but I am really paranoid about losing ground with my fitness.

Dance- best wishes to you on yours!

Rob, did you have a lbl? Wow, that's a long time to have to lay off. Did you find it hard to work your way back into shape when you were through recovery?

I am having TT and BL/BA in June as well and I've been worried sick about losing some of my progress -- I must say, i like myself being so fit and active and i don't want to lose any of it. My plastic surgeon said i could walk as much as i wanted from day 1 (if i was able and wanted to), elliptical ok at 4 weeks and everything else at 6.

Be happy.

You will lose some of it, but it will definitely be worth it. :)

I had a hernia repair and a TT with tightening 6 months ago. I was cleared for walking whenever I felt like it and cardio at 4 weeks. I was running about the same as you and doing zumba three times a week. I started walking about a week out 1 mile a day then at 2 weeks  I  was walking 2milesetcc. I started running at 4 weeks I did not go back to Zumba until 6 weeks. It was slow at first and I think it would of been faster except my anemia was not helping . I had some iron infusions then I really saw improvements. I was up to 8 miles at 4 months out but have had to cut back now due to some back issues. Just listen to your body. Swelling will increase with activity; wear your garments!
