Calorie intake vs. calories burnt (X-Post)
Okay so I'm almost 4 months out and in the last month-month and 1/2 I've really upped my activity level.
I work out 6 days a week and burn anywhere from 600-1100 calories depending on what I do (normally around 800-1000 is average). I eat anywhere from a little under 600-800 a day. Is this okay? I mean I feel fine and have no problems...but it does seem like my weight loss has somewhat slowed. I know everyone has a different plan, but I see some people around the same amount of time post op as me eating 800-1000 calories (of course I don't know their activity level). I just want to make sure I'm not in starvation mode, or harming my body.

My weight loss slowed down when I increased my exercise, but as long as you are still losing, it's going in the right direction.
As you lose weight that return you get on calories burned isn't going to be the same.
an hour at 200 - 300 - 400 pounds are all going to burn different calorie amounts.
I don't think there is one good source for how many calories you burned, so take it with a grain of salt. I usually cross check against a couple different resources, then I pick the lowest results.
The treadmill at the gym may say 800 calories, my garmin watch will say 750 and online I can find anywhere from 600 to 850 for example.
So when I'm actually counting the calories in and out I always chose the lowest result that is within a reasonable range of the other results and that is what I use to calculate my results.

Thanks so much. I go by my HRM to determin how many I've burned. I've been at a stall for about 2ish weeks now, but for about a month Its been a pound here, or a pound there. I know its normal to start to slow down as you get further out, and as you loose a big chunk of the extra weight. I still just feel so new to the whole thing, especially the working out aspect of it all because before a 2 months ago, I was only walking maybe a mile a day. I hope this gets a little easier to keep track of as I get further out! lol
For me it is actually harder to keep track of. It's easy to slip back into old habits. Try this, taste that etc. Then logging becomes boring and estimating takes over weighing and measuring.
Don't fall into those traps.
Stay vigilent

I am always running at a deficit, caloric burn to intake. By calculations, I shoud be losing about 5 lbs.per week. THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. My body has reached goal, my body fat is in healthy range.
I continue to log everything, including my workouts. I use this: www.nutridiary.com
What I did learn is that if I don't bump up my intake a couple of days per week, from 1100 to 1500, then I stall, and actually may put a pound or two back on.
Everyone is different, and the physiolody of male vs. female is different too, due to hormones, fat distributions, etc.
You always want to me make sure you get your protein, or the muscle you are buiding will break down, and healing from surgery, wounds, injury, etc. will be inhibited as well.
When all else fails, talk to your DOC, Nut, or a sports medicine doc familiar with wls.
Take care!!!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning inAfrica , a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

MrsLatch-
I was working out 5 days a week eating about 900 calories a day. I felt fine too. As long as your body still has big fat stores and you keep your protein up, you should be fine.
The thing about exercise, though, is that muscle repair requires water. So when you start a strength training program or you up your intensity, you may retain extra water for a week or two. But eventually you reach equilibrium and the scales move again.
Scales are a very gross measure of what our bodies are doing with our fat stores. We can be losing fat and the scale isn't moving because of water retention or because we are building muscle. My body fat percentage went up this winter and now it's going down but the numbers on the scale aren't wildly different because I"m doing a lot of strength training and building muscles.

My weight loss seemed to come to a standstill until I realised I wasn't eating enough. I now eat 950 calories one day and 1050 the next. I also drink 8 glasses of water a day now where before I wasn't drinking much water at all.
I don't go to the gym but either walk 60 minutes a day or go with different hiking groups for the day, usually 5 hours hiking which I do 3 times a week. I am retired so am able to do this. I now have 3 pounds to go to reach my goal. I also exercise at home.I try to walk to and from the city if going. That is 7 miles which to me is a good workout.
I think as well as going to the gym if you can walk instead of using the car helps. Also drink plenty of water and up your calories. You are not eating very much. Try it for a couple of days and see. A few nuts as a snack will up the calories but are still healthy.
