A HUGE PR For Me & Some Other Stuff...

So my allergies were in full effect today, and I wanted to get 4 hours or 80ish miles in on the bike. I was only able to get in 1.5 hours in 20+ MPH winds and then my throat could'nt take  anymore. I came home and headed to the gym...

I wanted to do a Full Iron Distance Swim at a good pace. Last year at Ironman Louisville I swam the 2.4 miles in 1:14:--. Today, I swam that distance (actually 4000 Meters) in 1:08:01 which is a PR for me. The funny thing is that I started off pretty slow and negative split it, but I bet I have 4-5 minutes faster in me right now. My swimming has gotten really strong this week as I have swam over 10 miles due to the high pollen count and allergies that are not effected in the water. So that was really cool.

I am probably the only person who has ran 3 marathons 3 Ultras and Ironman without a Heart Rate monitor. I mean, I have never owned one!!!! So I got one yesterday, and I am going to switch my training from mileage focused, to hours and HR zones. Yesterday was my first run with it and it was very telling. I am so congested so I am sure that elevated my HR a bit, however... I ran 10 miles focusing on keeping my heart rate below 145, not knowing what pace that would equate to, and it turns out that 6.2 mph at an average HR for the workout at 143 BPM. REALLY happy with that, and I am excited to see how well I can improve my base by staying in my lower aerobic zones, while over time increasing my speed. To have what these ELITE marathoners have, as far as base goes, takes YEARS and YEARS of training,  and will NOT happen overnight.

Anyways, excited about the new HR Monitor, excited about the PR in the water, excited about Plastic Surgery next month, and SUPER excited about Ironman in Arizona in November. LET's ROCK IT!!!!

Great News Dan!  Wow, your posts continue to amaze and inspire me!

It will be interesting to see how it goes with a HRM! Looking foreward to the updates on it!

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Wow, you are a total inspiration!

I have a HRM, and I try really hard to stay in my zone, but it is nearly impossible for me to do so when I jog/run. I'm praying that will get better as I lose more weight and get in better cardiovascular shape. It is nice to know exactly how many calories I burn though!

I saw a great improvement in my heart rate profile after losing 65 pounds since the surgery.  I think you will too.  Good Luck!

That's cool about your HR. Funny, last year I trained with nothing but the HR Monitor. This year, I'm training without it and focusing on my times and distances. I realized on my last part of my run today that times didn't matter, it was all about survival mode. So I'm right there with ya and next week, I'll be sporting one.

Great swim by the way.

awesome swim!  With your BPM goal for your base, I'm curious, where is your AT?
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Not too sure yet Bill... haven't maxed out, but i am guessing MAX HR is 200-210, and aerobic will probably be 110 - 145 ish. More data to follow after I test. I ran at 7MPH with 8% incline on TM for just a minute or so and got the HR to 170 No prob. We will see...
