America's Run 2010
Had a great time in Arlington this weekend. Saw the Rangers, even though they got beat had a great time.
Went to sleep about 8:30 and woke up race morning about 4;30. Had a bagel, peanut butter and a banana to get going. Felt really strong.
Headed to the stadium at about 6:15. Did the general milling around, etc. Ended up watching the old Dallas Cowboy stadium getting demolished while I was at the new Cowboy stadium on the big video board.
Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders were there to get us started. My goal was to break 2 hours and I knew I needed to go out strong, but not too fast. Didn't want to bonk at the end. After the crowd started to then down on mile 2 or 3, I settled in to a 8:45 pace without much effort. The speed work I have been doing has really helped!
Somewhere about mile 8 or so there were some small children giving out high fives on the side of the road. That was totally cool. I happened to being running with a couple of other fathers at that time and we remarked how uplifting that was. I heard one of the kid's mom say as we went by, "I told you that they really needed that." She was right.
At about mile 12 we saw the stadium and the pace picked up significantly. Entered the stadium through the south ramp and when we hit the field it was awesome. You could see yourself coming in to the stadium on the big video board and it was load in there. Finish was at the 50 yard line and I sprinted the finish as hard as I could and leaped (stumbled) over the finish line.
Finish time was 1:55.14. I was grinning like a dang idiot I was so happy!
Thanks again for everybody's continued support.
