Dying to get back running again

So as some of you are aware I have been rehabbing hip and foot issues after my 2 half marathons last year, doing physical therapy without much success and I have been completely restricted from running.  At this point the therapists are completely stumped and looking at kicking me back to a doctor but they wanted to try one hail mary, putting a lift in the shoe of my bad leg.  They also gave me permission to do a tiny run yesterday which I was super excited about!!

Well...let me say that swimming and water aerobics does not keep you in running shape ;)

I went about 1.75 miles, doing a run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute pattern and man I am incredibly sore.  I wanted to go a little more but the hip really started to activate and act up.  My sister said I was probably overly ambitious with this little run and should have done only about a mile or so.  The worrisome part to me is that the heel lift didn't stop the hip pain while I was running.

I think I'm going to rest for a few days and then try one more little run, only 1 mile this time on Wednesday before my repeat appointment at PT.  Everyone cross your fingers for a miracle b/c I really, really need to start training by May 1st for the Disneyland half in September.

Fingers are officially crossed. :)

Strangely enough we're in a similar pradicament. I've been benched from running due to a calf injury and it's what finally was the last straw on my weight loss journey and made me decide to have surgery. I've run dozens of half marathons and 3 marathons (one I even ran at 192lbs) and about a half dozen sprint triathlons. I'm a BIG fan of running.

When I met with my surgeon he asked me why I wanted weight loss surgery, I told him "so I can run faster".

Good luck with your rehab.

I'm with ya. The last 6 months I've been dealing with a broken tailbone and hip pain. I am getting back on the wagon too. So far Wii Fit Personal Trainer is helping and also I am doing the elliptical 3 times a week and trying to run intervals at the apartment.

I hope that Wednesday goes better and I agree with your sister. Take it slowly and really ease into it! Good luck.

Good luck with the healing.  I know how much missing the workouts hurts.  I broke my collarbone a week ago and It still hurts to run, the jarring motion is a killer.  I can't do it yet.
I hope you find some relief soon.
