great job, i feel you on the feet, that happened to me in the last tri of the season last fall. great job on the improvement. it seems like an early season tri for the great white north :)

Yeah, the times should improve when I have more time and energy when I train.
I'm glad you got your blood sugar figured out. As far as what Scott said, I seriously doubt that you'd be taking much more than 10-20 sugar grams at a time, so I doubt the cycle will spiral. I also have these issues and am just careful to not take in too much at once. If I were you, I think I'd rather rely on gels when you exercise just because they have about double the glucose. The body doesn't dump much insulin into the system when you exercise, so I'd say you're pretty safe as far as that goes. Be sure your B12 is good also. I am noticeably less sensitive to the low blood sugars in the past few weeks.
