For the IT band get yourself quickly to a runners physical therapist.  I use a guy who takes care of the US Soccer Team, and he is awesome.  I also use a chiropractor.   The word "rest" never seems to come up as long as keep the IT band stretched.

another one I do is to cross my legs and pull my top knee to my nose to stretch my ass.
