guilt - am i the only one?
It's now been a week since I did my half and I took about 3 days off exercise afterwards...now, I want to get back into general workout mode, not training mode.
So on Saturday, I did a 3 mile run..and felt GUILTY for not doing more! Yesterday, I briskly walked 3 miles (it was GORGEOUS here!) and again, felt guilty...
Is this normal? am i the only one?

Be happy.
TOTALLY. i have these issues after every race where i take some downtime, and after my spill on Friday i've had two days off in a row, and boy do i feel antsy and guilty :) i wouldn't say it is NORMAL, but it is something that i definitley feel. :)
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

What will help with your feeling of guilt is a sense of purpose for each workout. In other words... WHY AM I RUNNING 3 miles today? Is it a recovery run after your half? Yes, I think it would be.. No reason for guilt.
Use this question EVERY time you workout! I went for a 3 mile brisk walk because it was so gorgeous outside and wanted to take in my surroundings...
I am running 5 miles today to work on my hill or speed intervals in an effort to improve my racing speed.
I am running 8 miles today to build my base, so I know it will be a much slower pace than my speed training, and I am OK with that...
Etc...
Have purpose behind everything you do and you will not feel guilt... It's when you have no plan, no sense of purpose, and direction that these feelings begin to surface IMHO...

It's normal. Find another race to sign up for and focus your training.
Or simply set another goal for yourself. I want to run 3 miles, but I want to do it X faster than before.
You are entitled to a little rest between events, just don't let it become the normal for your daily activity.
Congrats!

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
ditto here.. I decided I simply must have a goal at all times or I am not going to keep it up - Dan said it, gotta have a purpose in the workouts..
Its funny, during the half I was thinking there is no way I am running anymore.. when it was done after about 10 minutes I thought, well maybe I'll just do 5k's, by the end of the night I was thinking I need to do another half and improve the time, and now two days later I am thinking I need to register for a full in the fall :)
Resting today, and like you, I feel guilty - tomorrow I am going to do a kick butt lifting routine - I need to feel the burn).
I am going to walk/very slow jog a 15k local race this Sunday as the kickoff for the new goal(s) (including kicking butt in the muddy buddy in here in ny!) and a full in the fall.

There are a lot of "rest" days where I'll go for a 3.5 to 5 mile walk. The pace is usually close to 4.0 mph. I may take my dogs, or I may not. I enjoy my walk. Often times I'll do it with friends who don't train as hard as I do. I enjoy the company and just being outside. One BIG reason that I do it is to burn calories. I don't feel guilty about these days. Neither should you. Take Dan's advice-train with a purpose. Congrats. on your half.
