You definitley want to see a podiatrist. They will give you exercises and lots of advice. Mine had me in SuperFeet which are cheeper than custom orthotics. I wore them for about a year, never went barefoot and wore shoes with good support. That and losing 110 pound cured me and now I don't do anything special except make sure my running shoes have good support.

I would suggest going to a podiatrist. I've been dealing with PF for 16 years. I have extremely high arches so had to get custom orthotics. There are quite a few exercises but I like writing the ABC's with my toes the best. I do it constantly. The ball under the foot helps to massage. I also have a bag of ice that there just for numbing my feet! The other thing that I've learned is that you shouldn't be able to bend your shoes. The sturdier they are, the better. Good luck.

Not that you haven't gotten plenty of great advice for PF already but just wanted to add that my exercise physiologist made a suggestion that helped me get going first thing in the morning.  I kept a towel beside my bed to aid in helping to stretch out the tendons a bit before I put my feet on the floor.  Just place the center part of the towel across the arch of your foot and with your hands holding the towel ends, gently pull up towards you.  Massage and a heating pad helped as well.  The rest is simply time to allow those small tears to heal up.

 Hi

I have plantar fasciitis myself for a few months now. I think that the shots are more of a pain relief than real cure.

My podiatrist prescribed me with Custom made orthotics which did not work at all. I understood that treatment efficiency is very individual. If something works for one it may not work for the other. There are many treatment techniques that you can try. There are Taping techniques that I find very useful for my running. There are a few more self care techniques that I got from this informative website-
