How much is too much after surgery?

I am 1 week post-op with my lap band and I am feeling really great. I've been walking a lot every day but tried out my bike for the first time yesterday and it didn't hurt at all so I want to go do more of that now. But I'm worried about overdoing it so soon after surgery. Anyone have experience with this? I imagine that I can do what I want and if it doesn't hurt, I'm ok, but I'm about to call my doctor's office and ask too. Just wondering if people had personal experience. Thanks!

The only restriction I was given was no weight lifting or core work like crunches, planks, leg lifts etc for 6 weeks post surgery.  However after 4 weeks the Doc said I could do some weights as long as they were on a machine that isolated the specific muscles and stayed away from the abdominal area.

When I had my gallbladder taken out they said 2 weeks no running, but after that it was o.k.
same 6 week message on the lifting.

Thanks. Getting an answer from the doctor's office isn't going to be as easy as I thought. Left a message half an hour ago and waiting on someone to call me back. I'm just going to go for it. The bike path I want to go on is pretty flat and it's more of a cardio/legs workout than anything.

And I got a call back. No bike for 6 weeks post op? Really?? I know they don't want us to fall but I've ridden for the past 5 years and haven't fallen since I first learned how. I think I'll have to go on a quick spin around the neighborhood anyway. I mean really... if I can't ride my horse for 5 more weeks what do they expect me to do? I'm taking my dog to the park this afternoon but I'm so bored. ARG!
