Beta Blockers and Running???

So--I'm on beta blockers for adrenaline restriction---and I've had a hard time getting my heart rate up. So--I've been researching it--and people who had been running BEFORE they were put on BBs were saying how much harder their runs were, etc. So today I ran BEFORE I took my BB---and guess what--it was sooooo much easier!! I got my eart rate to about 166 (46 year old female) and ran three miles. Now--I'm not saying it super easy-peasy--BUT it was sooo much easier than it has been. I then went on and did another 20 minutes of the bike.

Has anyone else had experience with this??

Thanks,Kim

I'm on Toprol XL for high blood pressure. While I feel fine, I can't get my heart rate very high. When I do my 20 minutes on the treadmill or bicycle, it's never above 110. I take my pills before I go to bed and am usually at the gym at 6:00 a.m. Since RNY I have gotten off hydrochlorothiazide and cut my Toprol in half, but I still need to take it or my BP goes too high. I'm glad I've been able to reduce my meds, but I sure wish I could get off of them completely!

I'm no doctor but I am a critical care nurse and I'm not sure that not taking your BB to get your HR up is such a good idea, even if you do take it afterwards.  There has to be a medical reason the doc doesn't want your heart rate so high, do you tend to go into an irregular rhythm?  I would def check with your Dr first, don't want any more heart issues!  :)

I'm not taking it due to heart reasons---it's because I have tachycardia attacks under stress---too much adrenaline! But thanks for taking the cautious route!
