Quick update

Hey all,
Just a quick update on my medical condition: armchair quaterbacking accepted, lol.
Went to a sports medicine doctor, he has been the medical director for the Detroit Marathon so he's familiar with athletes and their needs.  He examined my old blood work and commented that while my sodium level was normal it was only normal by 1 point.  So during exercising that level is probably dropping to very low levels.  Only a simple guess.
I did my stress test on Monday and the cardiologist wasn't too worried and thought everything looked good.  Got blood work done immediately after that (hey, I'd already fasted was my thought).  Well, that blood work came back with a blood glucose of 55! Go back to the doctor in 2 weeks and we'll see what he says.
I agreed to lay off from hill/speed work and just do foundation work keeping my heart somewhat low and the doc agreed that I could keep exercising until the results of the tests came back.
Just thought I'd through an update out there even though I don't have much to tell.

Hey Dan,

Have they given you any idea what they are hoping to find or to rule out?
I know it's like pulling teeth with the specialist I am seeing to get that kind of info.
The guy is mister vague.

55 is a little low, but you had been fasting.  I got my doc to give me a glucometer when I thought I was having some blood sugar issues.  So whenever I get that shaky feeling or dizzy feeling I check my Blood Sugar.  There have been a couple times where it was really low, down in the 40's  This usually happens at night and it is almost a reflexive thing.  If I eat something late at night, its like my body dumps insulin and I end up crashing my blood sugar.  It doesn't happen during the day.

Now the dizziness happens all the time sporadically.  Some days not at all and it could go for weeks, then I will get several days in a row where standing up quickly will make me dizzy up to the point of taking a header one time.  They didn't see anything wrong with my heart and they thing is is caused by a lack of hydration.  So when I get the dizzy sensation without the other sensations I feel with the low blood sugar I just increase my fluids and it usually resolves.

Good luck with your test results.

Scott

Hey babe, the truth to your heavy breathing comes out now doesn't it!!
Sunflower seeds for the salt I'm assuming, not a bad thought.
As my fiancee trains for her half and meeting up with some of my buddies tonight I remember that I really am in great shape.  Not necessarily where I want to be, especially compared to you and those maniacs on Slowtwitch!  Feel very, very confident I'll be ready for my Ironman -- just wondering what kind of speeds I'll be able to maintain.  (I know, 1st Ironman goal is to make it to the finish line and don't worry much about times)
