Butt, Hips and Thighs

What exercises do you use or have you used for this area? I really dislike squats unless they are wall sits. I am really interested more in thighs and butt than legs at this point. I did some web searches and all I came back with were squats, lunches, step ups and leg extensions. Are these my only options?

While lunches are great... Lunges might be a better alternative to help develop those areas . If you want to develop the biggest muscle group in your body, you have to do those excercises. They are hard, and that's why you see the gym full of guys with HUGE upper bodies, but walk around on Chicken Legs. It makes me laugh. You can do other things as well... Crab crawls, kick boxing, leg curls, leg press, jump rope, run steps or bleachers. Squats, by far, are the BEST for your target areas...

lol I think I had lunch on the mind :)

Thanks for the advice. I think I am just going to have to suck it up and start doing the wall sits. Those count as squats right? The PT had me doing wall sits with an exercise ball behind me to help me go up and down and then hold the sit for 30 seconds after 15 reps up and down.

Wall sits are great, but are certainly not squats. Like they say in cycling, the only way to get good at riding hills, is, wel... riding hills. The only way to get good at squats and work the entire area you are talking about is squats. Yes, they are hard, and shatter your legs, but you will benefit far more from this singl;e excercise than any other...

Butt, hips, and thighs...we women are cursed in those areas, aren't we?? When I use the leg press machine, I do a set of 15 with 75 lbs. the normal way, then put my feet as wide apart on the board as I can and do a set of 15, then I turn my toes out and do another set of 15. That works different muscle groups, and with the last one I can really feel it in my inner thighs. There is also an inner/outer thigh leg machine at my gym that I use, and a back extension machine that really works the butt muscles. When I lap swim, I do several lengths of breast stroke which requires a frog kick, good for inner and outer thighs.

Good luck!

There are a ton of machines at the gym that I have no idea what they do :( I think that when I meet with the trainer tomorrow I will ask him to show me some machines for my target muscle groups so that I can work on these even when I am not working with him.

Thanks for the tip! :)

Those are some amazing stats! I have kept pictures but not measurements. I think that I may have my hubby do some measurements on me now so that I can start keeping track.

I would be so afraid to do lunches on the treadmill! I would fall flat on my face.. or back and then get wisked away onto the floor lol!

What are your goals? If you are trying to spot reduce, that doesn't work. The way to get rid of the fat in your butt, hips and thighs, is to get rid of fat in general.

If you want to make your core stronger, that's different, and squats and lunges are awesome for that. Lunges really work your quads (thighs)!
