Today was a rest day for my so I did 1.2 miles in 11:38.  I decided that it was going to be a rest day when my nose froze in the 8 degree weather as soon as I walked out of my mom's house.  I am visiting in Middletown, NY.  Kind of disrupts the routine but it's also nice to look at something different.

How did everyone do on this wonderful day?

i woke up @ 3 am and couldn't get back to sleep, so i headed to the gym early.  finished my long run today on the TM, felt great and had my hydration/nutrition plan working well.  did 17 miles in 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 42 seconds.  i'm a bit tired now and am pretty dehydrated (lost 10 lbs on the run), so i'm going to spend the day recovering and watching football :)
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

I'm doing my long run today. Not doing any strength training until my shoulder muscle starts feeling better.

ETA: UPDATE I did 45 min. run. set up and played on our new trampoline (with safety net, don't trust the kiddo's not to fall off the darn thing)

I had planned to run 7 miles again today, but my legs gave out after 3. I power walked for 2 more, so I did manage to get 5 .25 in with cooldown.

I really need to go get some compression socks.

Jet,

Are you doing recovery eating with about a half hour or so after you run?  It's especially important when you get to doing more miles.  It makes a BIG difference to me even when my workouts are only 30 minutes.

what do you do for recovery eating Linn?

I like PB&J or honey sandwiches (usually half) on 9 grain bread, Cliff bars, or Trio bars.  I eat right after my workouts and then again about an hour or 2 later with a higher protein meal.  Most of the cliff bars have a 4:1 ish carb:protein ratio that most believe to be the best ratio for restoring glycogen.  The thing is, you really do need to do it within 30-60 minutes after workouts.  I used to wait about 2 hours (when I got hungry) to eat, but had a lot of trouble with legs feeling like lead two days later.  Once I started eating like this, I stopped having those problems.
