Hi Jenny,

You're no weenie.  My upper body is pretty weak, so I'm trying to strengthen it to become a better swimmer.

I'm in the "adaptive phase" of Joe Friel's strength training program for triathletes.  I do 3 sets of 20 in this phase.

leg press - 110 lbs
standing lat pull-down -20 (hard for me)
step-ups - bar only (don't know the weight)
seated row - 30
hamstring curl - 35
I can eek out 6 push-ups.

I can't do leg extensions because of a knee injury.

I stretch between each set, as recommeded by Friel.  I'm hopeful that this routine will protect me from future injuries.

I'm finding that swimming and weight training really compliment each other! I started lap swimming about 2 1/2 weeks ago on my off days from the gym because I want to lose 30-40 more pounds and have been stuck for months. Yesterday when I was doing the butterfly press (my least favorite machine), I found it was much easier now than it was before I started swimming.

Thanks for your reply...keep up the good work!

Jenny

Did my Tuesday brick today.  Spin class then 3 miles.  It's about time the runs are feeling good again.  First mile at 6.9, next at 7.0, the next half mile at 7.1, and the last at 7.5.  I did do the last 0.1 at 8.5 and it was FUN!

First run today in about two weeks.  I ran outside and did 3.5 miles.  It felt good to be running again.

Half hour on eliptical for a bit over a 300 calorie burn. Then 7  miles on bike with rolling hills for about 40 minutes for total of about 600 calorie burn (more than half my daily intake).  Was a bit sore from lower body weights the other day and a run.

It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

I went to track. It sprinkled a bit, but not too bad. Got in 3.25 miles and ran all but .25 of it! But still only doing .5 mile at a time.
