VERY SCARY...it happens to the best of us!

Hi All,

There is a new OH Online Support Group. The above link will get you there.
It's called
Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions.

This group discusses the issue of transfer addictions (also known as cross addictions) after weight loss surgery. there are millions of people who have undergone gastric bypass who are now dealing with issues of addiction transfer.

For a number of people, giving up overeating leads to adoption of a new compulsion.

Addiction transfer occurs when someone is unable or unwilling to rely on one compulsion (for us, it was food) and so switches to a new compulsion (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, shopping, internet, porn, etc) due to not having dealt with the underlying issue behind the compulsion.

***Please feel free (and safe) to join and discuss any and/all issues you have regarding Transfer Addiction. ***

WE WILL SUPPORT EACH OTHER WITHOUT JUDGEMENT!

K - thanks we got it.  Also got it the last three times you posted it.  There is a transfer addiction board.  Good - see you there.  Perhaps you could ease up on the intrusion because it pushes down the more important threads.  Thanks
Scott

I generally don't answer to posts like this, but it appears that you are making the assumption by posting here, that because we are concerned with our health and fitness that we have transferred our 'addiction' from food to exercise.

We aren't alarmists on this board and are very helpful answering nutrition and exercise questions - especially to those newly post-op or new to exercise.  We always propose progressing slowly.  Doesn't sound too much like addiction transference to me, but if you actually spent time on this board, you'd know that.

Linn
